I suppose I should begin with the end of pregnancy since I neglected to post about that. My last run was at 38 weeks, 5 days. I know I could have pushed myself to continue running longer but at that point walking felt a lot more comfortable. At my last doctor appointment, we scheduled my induction for a week after my due date and my doctor also let me know it was fine for me to walk and use the elliptical as soon as I was comfortable after birth, and to wait three weeks before running. Emerson Lilly was born eight days after my due date!! She was teeny tiny and has long eyelashes and has her daddy's eyes and gigantic feet! I couldn't believe how perfect she is or how much I already love this little lady!! I spent the entire first week resting and bonding with Emmy. I think it was day eight or nine after she was born that I put her in her carrier and went for a little walk. We walked the next few days for 30 minutes at a time, then I started back on the elliptical. On exactly two weeks, six days postpartum (because I'm a little bit of a rebel) I went for my first run in five weeks! I had the idea to do my first run so the map would spell out "MOM" and I was so excited about it!! I had to take a couple breaks to be able to finish the 3.5 mile run, but overall it felt better than I expected! I was already within a pound of my prepregnancy weight the day of my first run - I had gained 23 pounds total. I ran four days in my first week back for a total of 15.11 miles and an average pace of 10:53! I know it's going to take a lot of work to get my distance and pace where I want, but for now I'm thrilled just to be running! I'm starting to train for my next half, so my main priority is to focus on increasing my miles, and I know everything else will fall into place eventually. :)

Hello, my name is Alyssa!I'm a momma to Emerson Lilly and two fur babies, a distance runner, and just a girl full of sparkle and quirks. I love traveling to races and exploring new places to run! I started this blog in 2014 as more of a journal to keep track of training for my first marathon, and I've continued to post about training, races, and other things happening in my life. Also, I'd like to be your best friend. :) Categories
